The course provides a survey of CL and the development of its specific genres, shown against the background of social and cultural development. While the beginnings of CL up till the 19th century are dealt with mostly descriptively, special emphasis is laid on contemporary CL, reflecting the plurality of thought of the 20th century, which can then be used as study materials on British and American culture.
