Syllabus -

1. Theory of the hysteresis loop. Virgin magnetization curve. Reversible and irreversible magnetization processes (domain wall movement, rotation processes). Nucleation. Coercive field, energy product. 2. Demagnetizing field. Physical fundamentals and consequences. Critical dimension of single-domain particle. Demagnetizing factor. Corrected magnetization curve. Operating point of a permanent magnet. 3. Survey of modern materials and technologies. Physical requirements for properties of hard magnetic materials and technologies used. 4. Technical applications and elements of permanent magnets design. Survey of applications. Magnetic circuits solution. Final elements method.
