Annotation -
This elective course focuses on fundamental methods for acquiring environmental data and applying that data to address environmental issues within the broader context of the natural sciences. It covers topics such as the use of electronic data sources and data processing using spreadsheet software and statistical programs, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS). For students in natural science disciplines, it serves as a foundational course that can be followed by further specialized elective lectures, practical exercises, and seminars. Presentations on various data processing approaches are based on the methodological materials of the software used (MS Excel, Google Sheets/Colab, RStudio, MATLAB, ArcGIS). The course is also available on the Moodle platform to support in-person instruction and—in justified cases—distance learning via online resources (lectures and exercises are conducted in Czech, while methodological materials are primarily in English).

Course assessment methods and requirements for successful completion, grading scheme -

The subject MO550P66 Introduction to environmental informatics is taught face-to-face or, in justifiable cases, via distance learning. Presentations of lectures and assignment of demo tasks are available on MOODLE: https://dl2.cuni.cz/course/view.php?id=1890 in PDF format.

To be awarded credit, demo tasks must be completed and, in case of absence from the exercise, the required results must be submitted for review in MOODLE by the end of the grading period. The task is completed when more than 50 points are obtained in the range of 0 to 100. The recommended submission deadline is the next exercise.
