The course explains the approach of modern physics to energy and its different forms and presents laws of physics governing energy transformations and its exploitation by human society and living organism. This general introduction is made concrete in following topics: energy budget of the earth; natural fluxes of energy and its density; exploitation of fossil fuels; nuclear energy and its utilization; alternative and renewable sources of energy; new trend in electricity production; production and the use of alternative fuels; distribution and storage of energy; new efficient ways of energy use; reduction of energy losses; enviromental impacts of energy production; deposition and processing of radioactive waste; comparison of the potential and the future prospects of various energy sources. The course is focused on educational excursion. |
