Course Description
The main objective of the course is to develop and deepen students’ knowledge and skills in working with computer technology, which are essential both for basic applications and for the successful completion of further computation-oriented courses. An important component of the course is the presentation of methods and strategies for searching and using demographic and geodemographic information available on the internet. Students will also be introduced, using the applications ChatGPT and NotebookLM as examples, to the possibilities of utilizing artificial intelligence for study and research purposes. Course Content - Basic work with computer technology and the operating system - Searching for and using professional data sources on the internet - Basics of working with Microsoft Excel - Advanced Excel functions, data analysis, and graphical presentation of results - Simple macros in Excel - Formatting academic texts in Microsoft Word - Editing a final thesis and working with objects within the text - Creating professional presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint - Basic principles of artificial intelligence and language models - Opportunities, limitations, and ethical aspects of AI use in higher education - Fundamentals of working with AI tools and principles of prompt design - Use of AI as a supportive tool in studying and in the preparation of a bachelor’s thesis Teaching Methods and Organization The course is delivered through lectures and practical classes. Lectures focus on the use of artificial intelligence in higher education, particularly on the basic principles of how AI tools function, their opportunities and limitations, principles of working with AI tools, and ethical and academic aspects of their use. Practical classes focus on developing hands-on skills in working with MS Office applications. Mode of Delivery The course is delivered in person. In the event of changes in organizational, operational, or other conditions, the course may be delivered in an online format; students will be informed of any such changes in a timely manner. The course is completed by a credit, which will be awarded on the basis of meeting the conditions of attendance (maximum one unexcused absence) and the elaboration of continuously assigned individual tasks. By the end of the credit week, all exercises assigned at the seminars must be submitted.
