The course is primarily intended for students in the Demography study program who have completed at least the courses Demographic Applications SAS I and II.
The internship can take place in one of three forms (announced before the beginning of the semester, according to current possibilities): A. Internship at a company using SAS B. Internship in a research project where SAS is used for analysis C. Internship at SAS Institute, Czech Republic Within the companies participating in the professional internships, students have the opportunity to see the practical applications of SAS, gain insight into the functioning of individual companies, and acquire practical experience. In the case of a research project, the student is involved for a limited time and is tasked with conducting a partial analysis, preparing data, or performing another task in SAS. In the case of an internship at SAS Institute, students undergo professional training in SAS, which is customary for newly hired employees, and also participate in at least a one-day meeting at SAS, where they receive additional information regarding working with SAS, future collaboration with SAS, or personal development. Internships in forms A or B can take place either in blocks (i.e., within 1–2 weeks of the semester) or throughout the entire semester—this depends on the individual agreement between the student and the receiving institution/project. In any case, there should be approximately 40–50 hours of direct practice (+ about 30–40 hours of independent preparation as needed). In the case of an internship in form C, the workload is spread throughout the semester, and students choose their own pace of progress. A specific date will be arranged in advance for the meeting at SAS at the end of the semester. The hourly workload for form C is comparable to that of forms A and B. The internship includes one introductory and one concluding seminar lasting a maximum of about 90 minutes, held at the faculty on a date announced before the beginning of the semester; attendance can also be arranged individually (by agreement). During the seminar, students are informed about the course of the internship, the administration of ensuring and documenting completion, etc. Specific information for the relevant academic year is provided in Moodle—internships for the winter semester are usually offered from June/July. If interested, please contact the course guarantor as soon as possible (even before the internship offerings are published); the number of places is often limited, and it is not always possible to increase capacity. Specific information for the relevant academic year is provided in the Moodle system. Last update: Hulíková Tesárková Klára, doc. RNDr., Ph.D. (26.06.2025)
