Annotation
ourse objectives:

Students will learn SAS procedures aimed at solving selected demographic problems and they will be able:

to solve relevant demographic analysis problems
to construct appropriate SAS code
to comment on the output of SAS procedures
to comment on the demographic context of the SAS procedure outputs

Requirements to the exam

Course requirements - combined form of study: A minimum of 70 points out of 100 is required to pass the course (70-79 points = good; 80-89 points = very good; 90-100 points = excellent). Points may be earned for the following activities:

85 pts. final test - building code in SAS
15 pts. activity during the tutorials

Syllabus

the course covers the following topics:

  • Methods of standardization including confidence intervals and statistical significance testing: The STDRATE procedure
  • Graphical mode: SAS/GRAPH (bivariate graphs, correlation diagrams, bar and line graphs
  • Survival analysis, non-parametric, parametric and semi-parametric modelling: The LIFETEST procedure, The LIFEREG procedure, The PHREG procedure
  • Regression modelling with a focus on logistic regression (binary, ordinal and multinomial): LOGISTIC procedure
  • Generalized linear models. Poisson regression. Main effects and interaction model. Rates and relative risks.  The GENMOD procedure

Course organisation  - full-time form of study: 3 EC, i.e. approx. 14 hours of lectures + 14 hours of tutorials + approx. 50 hours of independent work (where 1 ECT credit corresponds to 26 hours of study load) during the lecture the statistical methodology is presented and the functioning of the relevant procedure is explained. During the tutorial, the relevant procedure is practised with examples including interpretation of the results.

Course organisation - combined form of study: 14 practical hours aimed at practicing the material on the basis of the materials provided and previous self-study. Self-study materials will be published in Moodle
