Requirements to the exam

Syllabus

The course covers the following topics:

1. Nuptiality. Concepts, definitions, basic indicators, rates of 1st and 2nd kind
2. Divorces. Divorce rate. Legislation. The crude divorce rate.
3. Births and fertility. Concepts (fertility, childlessness, infertility), the definition of live and stillbirths and abortion, Coale index.
4. Female fertility. Marital status, marital fertility rates by age, parity
5. Cohort analysis of fertility and differential fertility. Education, occupation, religion, regional differences.
6. Abortion and abortion rate. Definitions/types of abortion, indicators, data sources, contraceptive use.
7. Reproduction. Gross and net reproduction rates, Lotka (internal) growth rate.
8. Stationary and stable population models.
