Annotation -
Introduction and basic terms in biochemistry. Biomolecules (proteins, saccharides, lipids, and nucleic acids) - their structure and biochemical properties. Enzymes. Metabolism - glycolysis, citric acid cycle, electron transport, and oxidative phosphorylation, proteolysis and metabolism of amino acids, ß-oxidation of fatty acids, pentose phosphate pathway, photosynthesis, synthesis of lipids and saccharides, Expression and transmission of genetic information. Control of biochemical processes.

Syllabus -

Catabolic processes in living organisms - energetic metabolism, "high-energy" compounds. Glycolysis, ß-oxidation of fatty acids, metabolism of lipids, tricarboxylic acid cycle, metabolism of proteins and amino acids, respiratory chain and aerobic phosphorylation. Anabolic processes - gluconeogenesis, pentose phosphate pathway, photosynthesis, fatty acids and lipid synthesis. Expression and transmission of genetic information. Replication, transcription and translation. Regulation of proteosynthesis. Molecular basis of hormone action. Control of biochemical processes.
