Lasers and their features. Types of lasers.
The methods of linear spectroscopy. Absorption spectroscopy.
Optoacoustic spectroscopy. Laser induced fluorescence. Raman spectroscopy.
Nonlinear methods. Special methods of laser spectroscopy.

The course is designed for Master and PhD students.

Syllabus -

  • Lasers and their features. Fundamental principles of lasers.

  • Types of lasers – specification, features and their application.

  • The methods of linear spectroscopy: absorption spectroscopy, fundamental principles and application, laser diode spectroscopy, cavity ring down spectroscopy.
    Optoacoustic spectroscopy – principles and application.
    Laser induced fluorescence, principles, detection.
    Raman spectroscopy, principle.

  • Nonlinear methods: saturation sub- Doppler spectroscopy, principle.
    Lamb dip spectroscopy. Two photon spectroscopy, principles.
    Multiphoton and multiquantum processes, ionization, dissociation.
    CARS (Coherent Antistokes Raman Spectroscopy), fundamental principles.

  • Special methods of laser spectroscopy:
    Time resolved spectroscopy, laser induced absorption.
    Methods of remote sensing, LIDAR, examples of remote sensing techniques for detection of atmospheric pollutants.
