Microtubules, actin microfilaments and intermediate filaments are usually considered
as main components of the cytoskeleton. Together with a number of associated,
structural and regulatory proteins, they provide the cell with important dynamics,
the mechanical support and integrity. Furthermore, exposing a surface comparable
in size with the system of cellular membranes the cytoskeleton may directly affect
functioning of interacting proteins in a number of cellular processes, e.g. by
sequestering of enzymes from their specific targets. Since the cytoskeletal proteins

1) Architecture of eukaryotic cells - introduction, components of the cytoskeleton,

conservativity, heterogeneity , modern methods of cytoskeleton studies

(biochemical, immunocytochemical, toxins, molecular biology).

2) Microtubules - structure, dynamics and nucleation; organizing centers (MTOC);

microtubule assemblies, molecular motors and associated proteins; functions of

microtubules.

3) Actin microfilaments - structure and dynamics; actin containing structures;

molecular motors and associated proteins; functions of actin microfilaments.

4)Microtubules and associated proteins in plant cells; Acentrosomal nucleation;

mitosis and cytokinesis.

5) Role of cytoskeletal proteins in controlling gene expression (e.g. in localized

translation and protein trafficking).

6) Signalling and controlling mechanisms of the cytoskeleton organization; role of

cytoskeleton in morphogenesis of plants; role of cytoskleton in cellular reactions to

biotic or abiotic stress.
