The course is designed to teach students how to use the international rules of botanical nomenclature. The importance of nomenclature rules. Historic development of nomenclature, botanical congresses, nomenclature committees. International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. Basic principles of the Code (priority, starting point, typification, 'Kew-rule', etc.). Detailed explanation of individual articles of the Code; interpretation, using examples to illustrate the principles. Conserved names, rejected names, and names in common use. Literature references for the requirements of botanical nomenclature.
