Annotation -
Please note, the lectures are given in Czech language only. This course covers morphology of vascular plants and provides basic information about the structure of vegetative and generative organs of plant body. Relationships between structure of the organs and their function or ecological importance are highlighted, as well as their evolutionary origin. Substantial part of the course is also dedicated to the process of plant generative reproduction, various strategies of vegetative reproduction and their relative importance.

Syllabus -

1. History of vascular plant morphology and her role in the contemporary science. The origin of vascular plants and basic characteristics and division of plant organs.

2. Structure, function and ontogeny of vascular plant organs. Structure of root and types of root systems. Structure and types of stem ramification. Structure, types and position of vascular system. Origin and position of the buds. Morphology and evolution of leafs, their types, vascular system, vernation, estivation and phylotaxy. Modification and transformations of the vascular plant organs. Primary and secondary organs and structures. Ecological adaptations of vascular plants on the morphological level.

3. Structure of the generative organs. Vegetative and generative reproduction. Metagenesis of Bryophytes, Ferns, Gymnosperms and Angiosperms. Structure of reproductive organs, micro- and mega- sporogenesis of Gymnosperms. Pollination, fecundation and embryonic development of Gymnosperms. Structure (differentiation, symmetry, perigon, andreceaum, gynoeceum, sexuality, ovary and placenta ion types etc.), ontogeny and function of flowers. Micro- and mega- sporogenesis and gametogenesis of Angiosperms. Pollination, (double) fecundation and embryonic development of Angiosperms. Autogamy and allogamy, incompatibility systems. Apomixes. Structure and ontogeny of seeds. Origin, structure and classification of fruits. Fruits and seeds dispersal ecology. Classification and phylogeny of inflorescence.
