Annotation -
The course provides an overview of the main zonal biomes (terrestrial ecosystems) of the world. Each biome is treated in one lecture which is given by a speaker who has ample research experience with that particular biome. Individual lectures deal with abiotic characteristics of the biomes, historical aspects of their development, floristics, their structure and ecosystem dynamics, adaptations of plants/organisms, and influence by human. A significant part of the lecture is devoted to discussion of selected papers about specific subjects related to the biomes.
