The course is intended for master's and doctoral studies.

The course is intended for doctors, veterinarians or persons with other higher education in the field of biology, who
during their studies have demonstrably become familiar with the methods of breeding and working with
experimental animals.

Financial participation of the student: 900 CZK

Requirements to the exam -

The course ends with an exam in one term - a written test in the presence of an examination commissioner from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. In the event of successful completion of the exam, the course participant will receive a Certificate of Professional Competence for Designing Experiments and Experiment Projects from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, valid for 7 years, and will also receive the relevant credits in SIS.

In the event of failure or absence from the exam, course participants will be offered alternative dates for taking the exam under the same conditions as in the first term, but only with the gain of credits, but without the possibility of obtaining a Certificate of Professional Competence for Designing Experiments and Experiment Projects.

Syllabus -

a) the provisions of the Act and the implementing legal regulations issued for it,

b) other legal regulations of the Czech Republic relating to the acquisition and breeding of animals, their care and their use for scientific purposes, in particular the Veterinary Act, the Criminal Code, legal regulations regulating the way work is organized and work procedures, which the employer is obliged to ensure in work related to animal husbandry, the law on nature and landscape protection, the law on hunting and the law on fishing,

c) provisions of European Union regulations and international agreements pursuant to Article 10 of the Constitution in the area of animal protection against cruelty, which regulate the protection of experimental animals11),

d) ethical questions regarding the relationship between humans and experimental animals, the inherent value of life and arguments for and against the use of experimental animals for scientific purposes,

e) basic biology and relevant species-specific biology in relation to anatomy, physiological characteristics, breeding, genetics and genetic changes of experimental animals,

f) ethology of experimental animals, breeding and environment modification,

g) species-specific methods of handling experimental animals,

h) care for the health of experimental animals and hygiene,

i) recognition of the species-specific fear, pain and suffering of most common species of experimental animals,

j) anesthesia, pain-reducing methods and killing of experimental animals,

k) using aspects of humane treatment of experimental animals,

l) the requirement to replace and limit the use of experimental animals and their gentle treatment,

m) design of experiments and experiment projects,

n) management, records, statistics, archiving and protection of data related to the breeding and use of experimental animals,

o) nutrition of experimental animals,

p) specifics of experiments on farm animals and wild animals outside the facility of the user of experimental animals, including the capture of wild animals.
