Annotation -
The focus of the reading lies in deeper probes into both the anthropological and ethical thinking of important medieval authors and their theology. The student will learn to understand specific medieval, especially scholastic, terminology and to some extent to interpret independently the thought structures of metaphysical, anthropological, gnoseological and ethical texts from medieval intellectual culture. Particular attention is paid to the texts of Augustinus Aurelius and Thomas Aquinas. The legacy of these two thinkers is not only of historical interpretative interest in today's philosophical world, but is proving to be a current inspiration (see, for example, Charles Taylor, John Finnis...). Questions of this topicality should also be one of the points of discussion in the readings.
