The seminar focuses mainly on developing communication competence in the academic language of the humanities and social sciences. Students will get familiar with vocabulary and language structures typical for various topics and disciplines. They will improve their skills in reading comprehension, in summarizing the main ideas of the text and in expressing their own opinion. The texts that will be presented during the lessons can be adapted to the needs of the participants and to their language level.

After completing the seminar, students will be able to understand the main ideas in texts written in academic language, will be able to express themselves simply and coherently on selected topics and will be able to clearly formulate their opinion.

Teaching methods

During each lesson we will work with a text / texts in the Czech language selected from a specific humanities discipline. We will learn to summarize the text, express our own opinion and discuss the topic that is mentioned in the text, practice new vocabulary, etc. The complexity of the texts will be adapted to the level of students. Topics will be discussed on the basis of students' specialization.
