Annotation -
Annotation
This course is designed for students of both a BA degree and a MA degree as well as doctoral students. A prerequisite for this course is advanced language level. The course aims to help students master the specialized vocabulary from the fields of politics, politology and sociology. Furthermore, it will provide students with the deepening of grammatical skills and offers a survey of the political system of contemporary Commonwealth of Independent States as well as of its historical background.

Requirements to the exam -

1) Hand-written synopses of the texts read in the seminars (7-15 sentences) and a one-page commentary to one of them based on one’s own choice. Both are to be submitted prior to writing the test; I will gladly provide the authors with the corrections of their continuously submitted papers.

2) Credit test
The test examines the ability to understand an unknown politological/sociological text, to give one's own opinion on a given topic, active knowledge of grammar and vocabulary studied during the course.

Syllabus -

Textbook topics - political system, parliament, elections.


Texts covering current topics from the field of humanities. Up-to-date texts with socio-scientific topics (The Bologna Process and Russian higher education, the Russian-Finnish border, parliamentary elections in Slovakia, street artists against the war, anti-Semitic displays in the North Caucasus studied in the winter semester of the academic year of 2023/2024). The files above contain a text sample to see the level of difficulty.


Grammar is going to be included in the class and is based on the textbook "Nové cvičebnice ruské gramatiky;" topics will be selected by the class participants.

Knowledge covered by the textbook "Ruština nejen pro samouky," i.e. roughly B2 level according to the European Refererence Framework for Languages.
