The content of the subject is focused on the practical demonstration with the detail explanation of characteristic identification (morphological) characters which are typical for certain orders, families, genera and species of pharmaceutically and toxicologically important plants.

The courses are divided into two parts ? theoretical (lectures) and practical (practical classes). The practical part takes place in the field (Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants of the Faculty of Pharmacy Charles University, and in selected localities in Hradec Králové). Lectures Introductory information about botanical nomenclature and explanation of morphological terms, organology ? morphology of root, stem, leaf, flower and fruit, bases of phytocoenology with the focus on phytocoenoses comprehensive of medicinal plant species and the orientation in certain different characters of species which are frequently confused (with the use of Web databases Daidalea ? http://www.faf.cuni.cz/daidalea). Identification characters ? order Scrophulariales (fam. Scrophulariaceae), Malvales (Malvaceae, Tiliaceae), Ericales (Ericaceae, Vacciniaceae), Rhamnales (Rhamnaceae). Identification characters ? order Fabales (Fabaceae), Capparales (Brassicaceae), Araliales (Apiaceae). Identification characters ? order Fagales (Fagaceae), Violales (Violaceae), Lamiales (Lamiaceae), Asterales (Asteraceae), Myrtales (Oenotheraceae).
