Annotation -
Discussion on the dissertation topic represents discussion of the current state of preparation of the dissertation in the context of the current state of knowledge, its methodology, and preliminary research findings. This also includes an evaluation of the progress of the dissertation preparation and the fulfillment of obligations according to the individual study plan.

Requirements to the exam -

When evaluating the discussion, the committee assesses in particular:

a) the presentation of the results of experimental activities to date, their placement in the context of the current state of knowledge, the drawing of interim conclusions, and plans for their completion;

b) the student's orientation in issues related to the field and topic of the dissertation;

c) progress of study according to the ISP (fulfillment of individual obligations specified in the ISP, including internships abroad and publications).

Syllabus -

The discussion consists of two parts:

• In the first part of the discussion, the student presents the current state of knowledge in the field and topic of the dissertation, presents the current state of preparation of the dissertation and other aspects of fulfilling the ISP. They present in detail the hypothesis/objectives, methodologies, results of the dissertation to date, and further research plans. This presentation will not exceed 20 minutes. This will be followed by a discussion with the committee and guests in attendance.

• The second part of the discussion consists of a discussion of other selected topics and areas related to the topic of the dissertation, which will be determined and announced to the student by the Chair of the Subject Area Board at least one month in advance.
