Organic synthesis follows up on undergraduate courses in Basic Organic Chemistry (Organic Chemistry I and II), focused on the properties of organic compounds and functional group interconversions, and on postgraduate course in Organic Chemistry. The aim is to make students familiar with fundamental principles of synthetic design based on retrosynthesis (strategic bond disconnection approach). Particular attention is paid to the construction of the carbon skeleton of important types of bioactive molecules, namely heterocycles and low molecular weight natural products. Knowledge about modern approaches to C-C bond formation, based on transition metal catalysis and organocatalysis, is also expanded.
