The subject Chemical Drugs employs the knowledge obtained in preceding subjects of science and medicinal character.<br>
It affords complete overview about drugs and adjuvants of chemical character. It is an interdisciplinary subject connecting the chemical, biological and specific pharmaceutical disciplines. The subject includes historical aspects of drug development, sources, nomenclature and especially the aspects of chemical structure and its modifications influence on pharmaco-dynamic as well as pharmaco-kinetic processes in the course and after drug entry into body. The subject also introduces students to the topic of biological drugs

1) Chemical drug development 2) Drug nomenclature 3) Sources of new drugs 4) The importance of isomerism in drug action 5) Importance of physicochemical properties for drug action 6) Structural factors affecting drug action 7) Prodrugs 8) Modification of structure, homology, analogy 9) Importance of metabolism for drug action 10) Biological drugs (peptides, antibodies, nucleic acids) Practical classes concern various methods of drug study using physico-chemical approach (increase of water solubility, increase of lipid solubility, acidity, adsorption). Drugs are also studied from the stereochemical point of view using models of drugs. The students will learn how to search in scientific databases. Last update: Zimčík Petr, prof.
