The subject of Healthcare Psychology is based on the current global trend in healthcare, emphasizing a bio-psycho-social approach to the patient. It introduces the issues of subjective experience of illness, the psychological aspects of various diseases and their therapy, the psychological contexts of drug dispensation, and the desirable (and undesirable) personality traits and elements of the professional role of the healthcare provider (pharmacist).
Learning Outcomes: Based on the acquired knowledge and skills, students will be able to: Ø Define the subject of psychology and its application in healthcare, especially in pharmacy. Ø Define the bio-psycho-social model of illness. Ø List the methods of healthcare psychology, including research, diagnosis, and therapy. Ø Describe challenging life situations such as stress, frustration, and conflict. Ø List stress management techniques within the framework of psychohygiene. Ø Describe the psychological aspects of patients with selected diagnoses. Ø Propose ways to utilize the placebo effect and suggestion in treatment. Ø Assess the impact of iatrogenesis and pharmaceutogenesis on patients. Ø Explain the basic categories and the patient's attitude towards illness. Ø Explain the process of autoplastic processing of a pathogenic situation. Ø Discuss the psychological aspects of treatment, medications, and their dispensation.
