Learning outcomes

The subject Applied Computer Technology builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the subject Mathematics in the form of practical exercises in the spreadsheet editor MS Excel. Additionally, new skills are acquired through practical exercises in the text processor MS Word.

Upon completion of the course, students will understand and be able to work with the following terms in the MS Word environment: principles of document development; fonts, paragraphs, and page layout formatting; tables; mathematical expression editor; styles; templates; references (headings, cross-references, citations, table of contents).

Upon completion of the course, students will understand and be able to work with the following terms in MS Excel: cell formatting; calculation commands; use of functions; matrix expressions; graph generation and modification; data filtering and use of Subtotal functions; goal seek (What-If Analysis); Solver module; Data Analysis module

Learning Outcomes:

Based on the knowledge and skills acquired, students will:

Ø  define the importance of computing as a discipline that is essential for processing and evaluating data in biomedicine and pharmacy;

Ø  learn the principles of document development in MS Word text processor and formatting and defining mathematical and statistical formulas in MS Excel spreadsheet;

Ø  prepare and test texts using appropriate font and paragraph formatting in MS Word and data files using calculation commands and functions in MS Excel;

Ø  perform text formatting using the appropriate styles, templates and tables in the MS Word environment and visualization of data using charts in MS Excel;

Ø  will use examples to explain the principles of inserting headings, cross-references, citations and tables of contents in MS Word and advanced methods of data analysis using filtering and goal seek function in MS Excel;

Ø  evaluate and interpret various formatting methods in MS Word and the results of data analysis in MS Excel;

Ø  design an appropriate text formatting procedure in MS Word environment and an analysis procedure for evaluating data files in MS Excel environment.
