Annotation -
The Pharmaceutical Technology I (PhT1) course follows the Basics of Pharmacy (basic princpiles of preparing medicinal products in a pharmacy), Physical Chemistry and Physical Principles of Dosage Forms subjects.It introduces to students the specific operations used in the preparation and formuation manufacturing of dosage forms. It introduces excipients used in pharmaceutical products, the formulation and stabilization procedures, and methods for assessing the quality of pharmaceutical products, especially with regard to ensuring dosage uniformity. <br> Practical training enables students to acquire the basic skills needed for the magistraliter preparation of medicinal products in pharmacies, the correct application of pharmaceutical calculations needed during the preparation (compounding), including dose control of active substance, preparation adjustment and labeling, options for the preparation stabilization, and determination of it shelf life.<br>

Course completion requirements -

The course is concluded with a credit. The exam for the course is part of the course Pharmaceutical Technology II. The course is concluded with a state final exam.

The following conditions conditions should be fulfilled for credit:

Completing practical exercises to the extent prescribed by the study plan.

100% participation in classes is required

proper keeping of protocols from the practical training

75% of correct answers in each of the final tests

Syllabus -

The Pharmaceutical Technology I (PhT1) course follows the Physical Chemistry and Physical Principles of Dosage Forms subjects.

Based on the acquired knowledge and skills, students:

• are able to define the meaning of the field of pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy;

• are familiar with the differences between the application and technological significance of a dosage form;

• using examples, explain the principles of preparing a specific dosage form according to its application and technological characteristics, including the necessary methods;

• are able to propose a procedure for preparing a specific medicinal product based on its composition;

• are able to evaluate the procedure for preparing a specific medicinal product and the selection of PL, interpret the meaning/role of the excipients used;

• define factors affecting the stability of the preparation and propose methods to improve its stability;

• are able to correctly apply the pharmaceutical calculations necessary for preparation;

• are able to prepare and adjust an individually prepared preparation, including checking the API dose, its labeling, and determine the shelf life.
