In the first part of the course we will discuss the possibilities of gene therapy (mainly gene therapy of cancer diseases and the use of stem cells for regeneration therapy) including examples from running clinical trials. In the subsequent part students will be informed about new approaches in clinical cytogenetics. In the next part the survey of new methodological approaches in oncological cytogenetics will be given, including new approaches in regulation of gene expression (knockout genes, antisense DNA and RNA, RNA interference, etc.). Next part will be focused on the mechanism of cell damage by cold and principles of cryoprotection in biological systems. In the last part the ethical problems related to the practical use of molecular biology will be discussed, in particular the presymtomatic DNA diagnosis and cloning of the human being.

V první části bude diskutována otázka genové terapie (zejména terapie nádorů a využití kmenových buněk) včetně modelových příkladů z probíhajících klinických studií. V další části budou studenti seznámeni s moderní přístupy v klinické cytogenetice. Poté bude uveden přehled nových možností využití metod molekulární biologie v onkologické cytogenetice, včetně přehledu nových metodických postupů pro ovlivnění exprese genů - knockout genes, antisense DNA, RNA interference. Závěrem budou diskutovány klinické, etické a legislativní problémy spojené s praktickým využitím molekulární biologie, zejména problémy spojené s presymptomatickou DNA diagnostikou a klonováním organismů, včetně člověka.

Účast na přednáškách je povinná, netoleruje se žádná absence. V mimořádných a řádně omluvených případech je možné požádat garanta předmětu o nahrazení jedné neúčasti na přednášce vypracováním eseje na určené téma. Porobnosti vypracování eseje určí garant předmětu. Takto je možné nahradit pouze jednu neúčast.
