Annotation
The sixth year of study is primarily practice-oriented. Throughout the academic year, students prepare for the state final examination by undergoing clinical training at the University Hospital Hradec Králové and other medical facilities in the Czech Republic or abroad. This enables them to apply and deepen their knowledge and skills directly in clinical practice. By combining theoretical education with hands-on experience, students not only acquire comprehensive theoretical knowledge but also gain valuable clinical competence and confidence. These experiences are highly beneficial not only for their future professional careers but also for everyday medical decision-making. During the academic year, students are divided into two groups, which alternate in their clinical rotations.

Requirements to the exam

    Credit

    • Credit is awarded upon completion of a 7-week internship at various surgical departments in affiliated hospitals.
    • Students must ensure that their logbook is properly completed. Each mandatory or recommended procedure must be documented with the date and the name of the supervising physician. The workplace section of the logbook must include the name, signature, and official stamp of the responsible physician from each department where the internship takes place.
    • The final seminar is optional and will be held synchronously online via MS Teams.
    • At the end of the final seminar, credit will be granted based on the entries in the logbook. If the logbook is incomplete or incorrectly filled out, credit cannot be awarded.

Please note: Students cannot register for the State Final Examination (SFE) without having obtained credit for the practical training.

Practice at the University Hospital Hradec Králové (FNHK)

Credit will only be awarded upon 100% attendance. Any absence must be reported in a timely manner to the Academic Department of Surgery. The head of the department will determine how missed sessions can be made up.

If the student is repeating the course, they are required to fulfill all academic obligations in full.

    Syllabus

The student independently finds a surgical bed facility in which they will complete their mandatory pre-state examination internship. This may also include specialized surgical departments; however, it is essential that the student is exposed to general or abdominal surgery for at least two weeks of the internship.

The student is required to inform the Academic Department of the location where they plan to carry out their mandatory pre-state examination internship no later than August 31 (applies to students in the second run) or no later than January 31 (applies to students in the first run) of the relevant academic year.

The reported internship location (whether within the Czech Republic or abroad) is binding and cannot be changed. A change is only possible in case of serious reasons, based on a written request submitted to the Academic Department.

If the student intends to complete the internship abroad, they must first have a formally approved request allowing them to do so. Subsequently, they must submit a signed consent from the foreign institution no later than 21 days before the start of the internship. The document must clearly state which healthcare facility and which specialties are involved.

If the student does not confirm any location by the specified deadline, it cannot be assumed that they will automatically be allowed to complete the internship at the University Hospital Hradec Králové (FN HK). Due to capacity constraints, only an alternative internship period outside the scheduled timetable may be available, which may result in the student not being able to participate in the state examination during the regular term.

If the student fails to confirm any location by the specified deadline and completes the internship abroad without submitting prior consent from the foreign institution, the course guarantor has the right to partially or fully reject the internship.
