Learning outcomes -

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

understand texts with healthcare topics

use basic medical terminology

describe the basic structure of the human body and body systems

term the diseases connected with a particular body system and describe their symptoms

characterize typical symptoms/signs and types of pain

find out personal details about a patient and their problems

differentiate between family and personal medical history, collect information about symptoms (e.g.pain, complaints) and conduct a patient interview

fill in the case notes

identify medical abbreviations (e.g. in case studies) and interpret their meaning correctly

explain medical terms to laypersons clearly and understandably, and formulate

patient instructions

choose suitable means of expression (e.g. medical or lay terms) in a (simulated) conversation

use correctly selected parts of grammar (tenses, passive voice, L/G nouns) in oral/written communication

transform direct speech into indirect speech in the context of patient communication

express location, size, and measuremet results using proper terminology

present acquired knowledge (e.g. first aid for emergencies) in the form of powerpoint presentation
