Learning outcomes -

After completing the course, the student will be able to: 

  • understand texts with healthcare topics 

  • use basic medical terminology  

  • describe the basic structure of the human body and body systems 

  • term the diseases connected with a particular body system and describe their symptoms 

  • characterize typical symptoms/signs and types of pain 

  • find out personal details about a patient and their problems 

  • differentiate between family and personal medical history, collect information about symptoms (e.g.pain, complaints) and conduct a patient interview 

  • fill in the case notes 

  • identify medical abbreviations (e.g. in case studies) and interpret their meaning correctly 

  • explain medical terms to laypersons clearly and understandably, and formulate 

patient instructions 

  • choose suitable means of expression (e.g. medical or lay terms) in a (simulated) conversation 

  • use correctly selected parts of grammar (tenses, passive voice, L/G nouns) in oral/written communication 

  • transform direct speech into indirect speech in the context of patient communication 

  • express location, size, and measuremet results using proper terminology 

  • present acquired knowledge (e.g. first aid for emergencies) in the form of powerpoint presentation
