Abstract: basic grammar rules, forming and understanding medical terms in anatomy and other medical branches.
Grammar - nouns and adjectives, introduction to the Latin declension system, numerals, Latin verbs in medical terminology. Word formation - overview of word formation - Latin and Greek prefixes and suffixes, Greek roots in compound words. Vocabulary - basic medical terms in anatomical, clinical and pathological terminology, medical prescriptions. Requirements for credit: Winter term: Activity classes (two absences allowed), completion of continuous tests and a credit test. Tests will include active and passive translations of anatomical phrases, grammar and word formation assignments. A sample of the midterm and the credit test is available to students. The first midterm test tests knowledge of the material covered in Lessons 1-3 (3 attempts, at least 70 %), the second test, which is written online and embedded in the "Cvičení z lékařské terminologie s klíčem" course in Moodle, tests knowledge of Lessons 4 and 5 (3 attempts, at least 70 %), in the final credit test the knowledge of all the lessons is tested (3 attempts, at least 70 %). Requirements: 1) knowledge of anatomical nomenclature - part 1 of the script - anatomical terminology 2) knowledge of the declension of the 1st-5th declension nouns, adjectives of the 1st and 2nd and 3rd declension, passive perfect and present active participles, and comparison of adjective forms (nominative and genitive singular and nominative and genitive plural), 3) knowledge of Latin and Greek word roots/stems used in anatomical terminology, analysis of the formation of technical terms and active formation of anatomical terms using Latin and Greek prefixes and suffixes. Summer semester: Requirements: 1) Continuous completion of assigned writing assignments for each lesson, 2) completion of the midterm and final test (3 attempts, minimum 70 %). 3) knowledge of the vocabulary of Part 2 of the scripts and the vocabulary contained in the authentic examples from the hospital information system, 4) knowledge of the inflection of nouns of 1st-5th declension, adjectives of 1st and 2nd and 3rd declension, participles of the perfective passive, participles of the prepositional active, graded adjectival forms and numerals (whole paradigm), 5) knowledge of Latin and Greek word roots/stems used in clinical nomenclature, analysis of the formation of technical terms and active formation of terms using Latin and Greek prefixes and suffixes in clinical nomenclature, 6) knowledge of the most common abbreviations in clinical nomenclature and formulary.
