The epidemiology of infectious diseases requires a detailed description of the specific infectious agent. In this way, the evolution of microorganisms and their mechanisms of spread can be described. Various techniques are used to characterize microbes, including enzymatic analyses, genetic marker searches, and whole-genome sequencing. Students will learn the basics of molecular epidemiology and its relation to common epidemiological tools. Different methods of microbial typing and their practical applications will be discussed. Methods of the One-Health approach will also be introduced, especially with examples of the spread of antibiotic resistance. Last update: Stachová Barbora, Mgr. (06.05.2024)
