In connection with sequencing of human genome and the other discoveries in biology there is an expansion of knowledge about molecular basis of human diseases, especially cancer. Molecular Pathology is the study of disease at the molecular level. Translational Medicine is a rapidly growing discipline in biomedical research that aims to expedite the discovery of new diagnostic tools and treatments by using a multi-disciplinary, highly collaborative, "bench-to-bedside" approach. Molecular basis of cancer, epigenetic changes cooperating with genetic alterations to drive the cancer phenotype („Hallmarks of Cancer“) and some examples of translational research in human cancer will be mentioned during the course. |
