The course "Introduction to scientific work and publishing" for postgraduate students of the LFP UK is aimed at
introducing them to the nature of scientific and experimental work and preparing the results of this work for adequate publication. The course is compulsory with a duration of 90 minutes. In the first part, students are briefly introduced to the history of science and its evolution. The essence of the work is explained, i.e. the preparation of a scientific hypothesis and the rules of its verification. Students are also introduced to the rules of clinical research, types of studies and patient rights. The functioning of Ethics Committees is also explained. In the next section, the work with laboratory animals is discussed. The principle of the 3Rs is explained in detail and the functioning of the Committee for Work with Laboratory Animals is explained in analogy. Furthermore, students are introduced to project preparation, the work of grant agencies and the way projects are evaluated. Last but not least, the importance of publication, preparation of publications, selection of appropriate periodicals and processing of scientometric data are discussed.
