Annotation -
Students will become familiar with the Czech terminology concerning the human body (parts of the human body, internal organs). They will be able to name selected diseases, and to describe their signs and symptoms.
They will learn how to: take patient's history; ask about patient's complaints and pain; give advice; give instructions.
They will practise the basic examination of the patient: role-play.

Course completion requirements -

Winter term: credit: attendance (2 absences allowed), continuous test (3 attempts, 70%), credit test (3 attempts, 70%).  
The gaining of the credit is conditional upon attendance, passing the continuous test, and the credit test. 

Summer term: credit: attendance (2 absences allowed), continuous test (3 attempts, 70%), credit test (3 attempts, 70%).  
The gaining of the credit is conditional upon attendance, passing the continuous test, and the credit test. 

Summer term: exam: written and oral part; without successfully passing the written test, it is not possible to proceed to the oral part.

 Declension and conjugation (present, past, future).

Learning outcomes -

After completing the course, students will be able to:   

•  recognize and name parts of the human body and internal organs;   

• ask patients about their health problems and understand their complaints;  

ask patients detailed questions about pain and understand their answers;   

recognize and name common diseases based on their symptoms  

instruct patients about their diagnosis and treatment;  

 • use basic phrases to convey additional information to the patient (follow-up appointment,  
   referral for specialized examination, etc.);   

• take the patient's personal, family, social, and occupational history (basic questions in a  
  simple form);   

ask the patient about items in their medical record (e.g., allergies, vaccinations,  
  medications) and record them;   

inform the patient about the procedures that will be performed;   

communicate with the patient, their family, and medical staff about the patient's health     

  condition;   

examine the patient using instructions (imperative, modal verbs);   

  express oneself in the present, past, and future tenses using imperfective verbs (including  
  irregular, modal, and reflexive verbs);   

• express oneself in the past and future tenses using a few selected perfective verbs, the     
  forms of which are specifically lexicalized 

• express quality and degree (including comparison) using selected adjectives and  
   adverbs.

 

Notes: 

The output level corresponds to approximately level A2 according to the CEFR + language specifics for specific purposes.   

• The student is able to communicate using simple sentences and understands their communication partner if they also use simple sentences. If the communication partner uses more complex sentence structures, the student is able to pick up key words in order to understand basic factual information.
