Annotation -
The aim of the course is to deepen knowledge of the Czech language (extend vocabulary and grammar). Students will concentrate on medical topics (dentition, oral diseases, dental tools), they will be learning communication skills for practice in hospital (doctor–nurse–patient).

Learning outcomes -

Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

·         recognize and name types of teeth, parts and layers of teeth, type of dentition;

·         ask the patient about the problems in eruption of teeth, about his/her habits regarding dental hygiene;

·         recognise and name dental hygiene instruments (and their types) and briefly describe what they are used for;

·         recognise and name the types of tooth decay (by site of decay, by tooth layer and by tooth pulp);

·         ask the patient about the symptoms of dental caries, inflammation of the tooth pulp and inflammation of the dentition and briefly describe these diseases;

·         instruct the patient on his diagnosis and treatment;

·         recognise and name dental instruments or appliances; ask the nurse for help and justify the request;

·         be able to use the phrases used when a patient comes and leaves the doctor´s office;

·         ask the patient about their health problems and understand basic oral health problems;

·         take the patient's dental history;

·         name which parts of the body to examine and which problems to look for;

·         communicate with the patient and health care personnel about the patient's oral health, especially dental health;

·         ask the patient in detail about pain;

·         ask the patient about items in the medical record for dentistry and write them down;

·         examine the patient's dentition and write/dictate the results on the record sheet;

·         use basic instructions when examining/treating a patient.

Course completion requirements -

WS+SS: Credit: attendance (max. 2 absences/semester), successful completion of continuous tests, credit test and completion of assignments.

Examination: written and oral parts. The student proceeds to the oral part after successful completion of the written test.

Continuous, credit and exam tests must be completed at a minimum of 70%, the number of attempts is 3.
