Annotation -
The subject of obstetrics and gynecology is a compulsory part of the 4th year of study in the Dentistry program at the Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň, Charles University. During the course, students become acquainted with gynecological anatomy and physiology, the most common and most serious gynecological pathologies, and the organization of gynecological care in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the anatomical and physiological changes during pregnancy, the course of spontaneous physiological childbirth and the postpartum period are covered, as well as the most common pregnancy pathologies with a focus on life-threatening conditions during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, medical management of labor, and the system of prenatal care in the Czech Republic. Students also have the opportunity to gain insight into practical operations within clinical service.

Course completion requirements -

Conditions for participation: successful completion of all requirements for admission to the 4th year of study.

Teaching methods:

  1. Lectures (optional) – a total of 7 lectures, each lasting 2 teaching hours.

  2. Practical sessions/seminars (compulsory – maximum of 1 absence permitted) – a total of 7 practical sessions/seminars, each lasting 2 teaching hours.

  3. Participation in a clinical shift (delivery room, outpatient clinic, operating theatre) – 1×4 hours, voluntary.

Requirements to the exam - Czech

Podmínkou pro "Zkoušku" je udělení "Zápočtu" na základě aktivní účasti na praktikách, povolena je pouze jedna absence /na praxi je povinnost nosit bílý plášť, kalhoty a boty/.

Ostatní kritéria jsou zahrnuty v Sylabu předmětu.

Learning outcomes -

Learning outcomes: The student is able to describe the anatomy of the female reproductive organs and the basics of reproductive physiology. They can give an overview of the most common and most serious gynecological pathologies and are familiar with basic diagnostic and treatment methods. Furthermore, the student is able to describe the physiological changes during pregnancy, the course of physiological childbirth and the postpartum period, and is familiar with the most common life-threatening conditions and their management. They can briefly describe the organization of gynecological and obstetric care in the Czech Republic.
