This course further develops the semiologic and syndromologic neurology, taught in the 3rd year of study. Here, in the fourth year, the previous knowledge of proper neurological examination is being applied to the assessment of diagnoses in basic nosological units. Students learn to distinguish characteristic signs of the spinal cord and brain disorders, peripheral neuron diseases and muscular disorders, states of altered consciousness and signs of psychosomatic disorders including neuroses and dissociative disorders. The main goal is to teach the student to set a proper topical diagnosis and to consider the right etiological reason for a pathological state. |

Out of 60 hours of tution, including Neurology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and 8 hours of lectures in Pathology, performed alltogether within 2 weeks, minimally 7 working days/ 42 hours of tution need to be signed by the teaching assistents. In cases of special reasons 1 additional working day absence could be recompensated by presenting knowledge, by self-iniciative in elaborating a neurological topic, or by especially active performance in seminars.
The course is finished by a "Multiple choice test", in which minimally 70% of correct answers are required. This neurological credit of the Course No 3 is a prerequisite for a global Exam of the Module II C. Substitution is possible only exceptionally, with another group. |

The anatomicaly substantiated topical diagnostics is the basis for localization of lesions of the brain, spinal cord, the peripheral neuron, and of muscular, joint or vertebrogenic lesions. Neurological diagnostics need to consider also a possible presence of other speciality diseases - most importantly those of internal medicine - which affect the nervous system. Also traumatic and other physical influences (e.g. radiation) should be taken into account. The cerebrovascular field is linked with consequences of atherosclerosis, the inflam-matory diseases with basic knowledge of Cerebrospinal fluid data, disturbances of conscious-ness with knowledge of EEG, neuromuscular diseases need good orientation in EMG, dementia and higher nervous activity disturbances are completed with neuropsychology. Neurooncology and vertebrogenic disorders are supported by an expertise in neuroradiologic imaging. In all steps of this study the relation of a proper history taking and analysis with results of an objective examination and ancilliary methods is permanently stressed. |
