Annotation -
Nursing in Surgery is a component of the Clinical nursing module in bachelor education. The subject is lectured in the winter and summer semester of the third study year. The theoretical part of the subject is realized by the form of lectures, quaranteed in the winter semester by Clinic of Surgery, Neurosurgery and Cardiosurgery, in the summer semestr by Clinic of Urology, Plastic Surgery, Burn Medicine and Orthopaedics. The basic knowledges of somatology, pathology, first aid and internal nursing is supposed. The practical part is realized by the form of seminars and practical exercises, guaranteed by Department of Clinical Nursing.It provides an overview of typical clinical symptoms, the basic diagnostic procedures based on physical examination and imaging methods. Nursing in Surgery is focused on presentation of the non-operative and operative treatment of diseases. The range of one semestr is 10 lessons, and the subject is concluded by the cedit at the end of each semestr and by an exam at the end of the third study year.

Aim of the course -

OBJECTIVE OF THE SUBJECT

The primary objective of the subject is to provide a comprehensive overview of individual surgical diseases and post-injurietic affections requiring surgical treatment.

The second objective is to present typical clinical syndromes, physical examination and diagnostics using imaging methods.

The third objective is to explain indication of non-operative and operative treatment and the method of planning of individual surgical procedures.

The fourth objective is to acquaint students with the performance of individual surgical procedures.

Teaching methods -

The course consists of lectures in Clinic of Surgery, Neurosurgery, Cardiosurgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Burn Medicine. Practical part of course is guaranteed by Department of Surgical Nursing by form of seminars, practical training in outpatient department, operation theatre and wards. Seminars have an interactive character.

Requirements to the exam -

1. Credit allotments : Eighty percent attandance to practical training is required. In case of absence posibility to complete practical

training in outpatient department.

SURGERY

Lectures : 1. Basic terminology and principles ot operarative tgreatment in thoracic cavity

a)thorax injuries (ribbs fractures, contusions, pneumothorax, haemothorax, thorax drainages)

b)lungs diseases, basic types of operations in thoracic cavity

2. Basic terminology and principles of operative treatment in abdominal cavity

(hernias, oesophageus, stomach, small and large bowel, rectum, liver, gall-bladder, pancreas, spleen)

3. Basic terminology and principles of operative treatment in vascular and endocrinosurgery

Venous and artery diseases, thyroid gland and parathyroid glands

NEUROSURGERY

Lecture : Basic terminology and principles of operative treatment in neurosurgery. Head and brain injuries, brain tumours

1. Introduction into the surgery, surgical specialities, basic surgical terminology. Basic rules in the first aid, haemostasis.

Types and characteristics of wounds, infection in surgery, prevention of tetanus. Asepsis, antisepsis, sterilisatio.

2. Surgical team, surgical instrument, prepare of patient to the surgery. Basic principles of patient´s post-op care and follow up.

3. Plastic surgery - introduction and basic subspecialities. Congenital disorders. Skin tumours.

4. Closure of defects, hand surgery, microsurgery, replantation. Aesthetic surgery.
