Aim of the course -

The course diabetology-endocrinology-gastroenterology-hepatology and abdominal surgery has 5 weeks. In the first two weeks the students will learn the basic problems in endocrinology and metabolism with special emphasis on diabetes mellitus. In the third week, the most common diseases of oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, intestines, biliary ducts and pancreas will be presented and diseases of the liver in the fourth week. The  fifth week of the course will be focused on surgery of gastrointestinal tract including topographic anatomy of abdominal cavity. The acute abdomen (inflammatory and ileus) will be presented in special seminars.

The course has an integrated structure; i.e. from the pathologic basis and pathophysiologic review to the clinical manifestation, diagnostic tests, therapy and prevention.

Teaching methods -

The morning lessons are divided into three individual units: 2 seminars and 1 practical lesson. The seminars are held for all students from the  assigned groups. For practical lessons, the students will be divided into smaller groups, white coat, stethoscope and house shoes are required.

Requirements to the exam -

The attendance in the entire course is compulsory. In practical lessons and clinical presentations, the presence will be always controlled by the lecturer.

Credit conditions: sufficient attendance in practical lessons. 2 absences in the entire course and no more than 1 absence in 1 week will be tolerated.

Exam: multiple choice test on announced days in the examination period after the semester.

The cut-point is 75 % of correct answers.
