The goal of the Methodology course is to provide students with tools that should be used to assess information from the continuously increasing numbers of scientific publications. The course provides with general introduction into the topic of causality and validity of studies. Students practice methodological aspects of studies that are set into the clinical context, analyze sources of bias in publications and get acquainted with some statistical methods.

Cílem předmětu Metodologie je poskytnout studentům nástroje k tomu, jak hodnotit informace z narůstajícího počtu vědeckých publikací. Kurs dává obecný úvod do problematiky kauzality (příčinné souvislosti) a validity (platnosti) výsledků studie. Během kurzu si studenti procvičují metodologické aspekty studií, které jsou zasazeny do klinického kontextu, analyzují zdroje zkreslení v publikacích a seznamují se detailněji s některými statistickými metodami.

strengths and limitations of studies given their design

effective communication of critical appraisal of scientific studies

understand ethical perspective of research, principles of informed consent, balance between risk and benefits for study participants

consider as a priority to integrate adequate scientific data into real clinical setting, given the strentghs and limitations of studies

Teaching methods -
The course is held in the form of 2 lectures and 6 seminars. Lectures are held at the beginning of the academic year. They are followed by 6 methodological practices, which are integrated into 6 clinical modules. They are usually organized as group work and discussions about methods used in publications.

Výuka probíhá formou 2 přednášek a 6 praktických cvičení. Přednášky jsou vedeny většinou formou frontální výuky a probíhají na začátku akademického roku.
Po přednáškách následuje 6 praktických cvičení, které jsou integrovány do 6 klinických modulů. Probíhají nejčastěji formou skupinové práce a diskuse o metodách použitých v publikovaných studiích.
