Annotation
The aim of the study is to get theoretical knowledge and practical dexterities in prosthetic dentistry – examination of the patient from the prosthetic point of view, proposal of prosthetic reconstruction treatment plan, pre-prosthetic oral treatment, oral tissues reconstruction with fixed, removable and combined dentures. Interdisciplinary cooperation. Practical knowledge and dexterities of denture manufacturing. Fixed dentures. Combined dentures. Total dentures. Dental implant therapy.

Theoretical Part

The student must answer 2 randomly selected questions from the following list:

  1. Dental implants – prosthodontic indications, patient examination, and treatment planning

  2. Treatment planning in prosthodontics

  3. Comparison of advantages and disadvantages of implant-supported superstructure fixation (fixed, removable, hybrid)

  4. Patient examination in prosthodontics (medical history, clinical and radiographic examination)

  5. General properties of dental materials (major and minor characteristics)

  6. Classification of ceramic materials used in fixed prosthodontics

  7. Dental alloys and their classification

  8. Types of tooth preparation in fixed prosthodontics (vertical vs. horizontal preparation); current perspective on minimally invasive preparation

  9. Conventional procedure for fabrication of complete dentures

  10. Fabrication of removable partial dentures – success criteria and longevity of treatment

  11. Conventional impression techniques vs. intraoral scanning – advantages and disadvantages

  12. CAD/CAM materials (for milling and additive manufacturing/3D printing)

  13. Procedure for adhesive cementation of fixed prosthodontic restorations

  14. Common errors in fabrication of complete dentures

  15. Principles of occlusion and dynamic occlusion in fixed and removable prosthodontics

  16. Hybrid prostheses – classification, indications, and contraindications

  17. Clasp-retained vs. clasp-free retention systems in removable partial dentures – a comparison

  18. Combining natural teeth and implants as abutments for removable prostheses – common errors

  19. Pre-prosthetic preparation before fabrication of removable partial dentures (path of insertion, caries risk, oral hygiene)

  20. Reconstruction of maxillomandibular relationships – conventional and digital approaches

  21. Clasp systems – types, principles of placement, modifications; concepts of retention, resistance, and masticatory load transfer

  22. Facebow and its use in prosthodontics

  23. Periodontal status and its long-term impact on prosthodontic treatment

  24. Materials for fabrication of complete dentures

  25. Relining and rebasing of partial and complete dentures (procedures)

  26. Classification of partial edentulism

  27. Biological factors of teeth and dentition relevant to prosthodontics

  28. Impression materials and techniques in fixed prosthodontics

  29. Structural and connecting components of removable dentures (classification and use)

  30. Neutral zone concept and its application; periodontal receptors

  31. Esthetics in implant prosthodontics

Case Report Component

The student presents their own case report of a prosthodontic patient whom they treated or analyzed during the course.

The presentation must include:

  • a brief medical and dental history and initial clinical examination,

  • analysis of the clinical findings,

  • a proposed treatment plan (including at least two alternative prosthodontic treatment options in different cost categories),

  • professional justification of the selected indication (biological, functional, and prognostic considerations).

Syllabus

Dental Implants - indication, examination, treatment plan, types of abutment, materials, cement-retained, screw-retained, friction-retained prostheses on implants

General properties of materials use in prosthetic dentistry, main materials: metal and metal free materials, materials for impression.

The new age of prosthetic dentistry. No post, no crowns, mini-invasive preparation, new materials for CAD/CAM technology, (PEEK, Trilor, G-CAM, etc.)

Resin bonded fixed dental prostheses, single or two abutment design, cantilever design, etched metal, etched ceramics, retention (undercuts, micromechanical retention, and grooves), chairside procedures.

All ceramic restoration. (Indications, working procedures)

Treatment plan in prosthetic dentistry. History taking, clinical examination, principal of occlusion, periodontal consideration, combination of implants and teeth abutments.

Luting agents and cementation procedures. Classic and CAD/CAM produced overlays and crowns.

Removable dentures, retainers for partial dental prostheses, treatment plan, clasp and attachment support, bracing, reciprocal elements, …
