The Primary Care course is designed to provide medical students with a deep understanding of the essential role
that general practice plays in the healthcare system. This course emphasizes the importance of primary care as
the cornerstone of effective and efficient healthcare delivery.
The aim of the course is to help medical students comprehend how general practice functions, including the
mechanisms that ensure the quality of care and patient safety. Through this course, students will have the
opportunity to enhance their practical skills in a real-world setting, gaining firsthand experience in patient
interaction, diagnosis, and management.
Students will also learn about the organizational aspects of primary care, including how practices are structured,
the workflows involved, and the multidisciplinary nature of the primary care team. By observing and participating in
these processes, students will gain valuable insights into the daily operations and challenges of general practice.
Furthermore, the course aims to instill a deep appreciation for the importance of patient-centered care, continuity
of care, and the holistic approach that is fundamental to primary care practice. Students will understand the critical
role primary care physicians play in early detection, preventive care, and chronic disease management.
Ultimately, this course prepares students to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, equipping them with the
knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their future medical careers.

Course completion requirements
To earn credit, students must complete a two-week training in general practice and submit to the Institute of General Practice a signed List of Activities along with a brief practice report and one case report. This documentation should confirm their participation in the training.
The general practice training can be undertaken at practices recommended by faculty trainers or in the student's respective home country.

Individual tutoring in a general practitioner's office for adults - guided by list of activities. The brief practice report, selection and writing of one case report (a model case report available in the files folder) from general practice are required. The internship is concluded with a credit seminar.
