Biology of parasitic protists, helminths and arthropods. Life cycles, interactions between parasite and host,
pathogenetic mechanisms of parasitic infections, antiparasitic drugs. Laboratory diagnostics of parasitic infections.
The course is taught in winter semester, and there will be microscopy (malaria, trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis,
cysts, oocyts of protozoal and eggs of helminthic infections) and other demonstration of human parasites.

There course consists of seminars on the topics of all important human parasitic infections. There will be seminars on life cycle and epidemiology of important human protozoal and helminthic parasites. Specifically distribution, clinical presentation, laboratory diagnostics and treatment of malaria, toxoplasmosis, african and american trypanosomiasis, visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis, amebiasis and other intestinal protozoal and helminthic infections, systemic helminthic infections including schistosomiasis. filariasis, larval toxocariasis, trichinellosis, cysticerciasis, echinococcosis. dr.
PRACTICAL SKILLS: Sampling and management of clinical material for laboratory investigations. Diagnostics of malaria, trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, protozoal and helminthic intestinal infections, etc.
The courses will be ended with credit tests at the end of winter semester.
The course will be held on WEDNESDAYS from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Studnickova 7, Prague 2.
