Subjects

This course is designed for students in the English-language teacher-training study programme who would like to improve their command of various aspects of English grammar. The primary focus is on deepening grammatical knowledge, refining the command of complex structures, and increasing awareness of advanced grammatical rules. Additionally, the course aims to equip the students as future teachers with the pedagogical skills necessary to effectively explain and teach grammar to their own students.

Course goals:

1. Enhance grammatical accuracy:
– revision of key concepts, functions and notions linked to English grammar;
– mastery of intricate grammatical structures and nuances;
– reduction of common errors and increased precision in language use.

2. Deepen grammatical understanding:
– comprehensive knowledge of advanced grammatical rules and principles;
– ability to recognize and explain subtle grammatical distinctions.

3. Develop pedagogical skills:
– formulation and clear explanation of grammatical rules;
– creation of relevant and effective examples to illustrate grammatical points.

4. Contextual application:
– appreciation of the role of context in making grammatical choices;
– ability to adapt grammatical explanations and examples based on different teaching contexts.

5. Techniques for teaching grammar:
– introduction to various methods and techniques for presenting and practicing grammar;
– practical application of these techniques in classroom settings.

Course objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate advanced grammatical competence:
– accurately use complex grammatical structures in both written and spoken English;
– identify and correct nuanced grammatical errors.

2. Explain grammatical rules clearly:
– formulate detailed explanations of advanced grammatical concepts;
– use appropriate terminology and examples to aid understanding;
– effectively link various aspects of grammar to functional language use and communication.

3. Apply grammatical knowledge in teaching:
– develop awareness of the suitability of various presentation techniques for teaching different grammatical aspects;
– develop a repertoire of tasks and exercises for practising grammar;
– assess the effectiveness of different grammar teaching techniques.

Credit requirements

Regular attendance in the seminars (3 points for each attended seminar). Each absence results in 5% being deducted from the overall score.

Completion of weekly Moodle assignments (each week max. 5 points based on the accuracy of the answers).

Once in the term prepare a worksheet with excercises for revising previous week's content a carrying out a micro-teaching with this worksheet (c. 10 minutes). Each student will do this once a term based on a timetable discussed in the first seminar. (20 points for the worksheet + 26 points for-micro-teaching)

Successful completion of a mid-term test in Week 7 covering the grammar aspect from previous weeks (max. 50, minimum 67% to pass, otherwise a resit is necessary – max. one resit).

Successful completion of the final test in the exam period (max. 100 points, minimum 67% to pass, otherwise a resit is necessary – max. one resit).

Všechny požadavky pro zápočet je nutné splnit do konce zkouškového období akademického roku, ve kterém si student předmět zapsal.

Požadavky pro udělení zápočtu

Pravidelná účast na seminářích (3 body za každou účast). Za každou absenci se odečítá 5% z celkového skóre.

Vypracovat před každým seminářem úlohy v v Moodle (každý týden max. 5 bodů za splněný úkol dle výsledků testu).

Jednou za semestr přípravit pracovní list s úlohami na zopakování látky z předchozího semináře a v semináři na základě tohoto pracovního listu předvést mikrovyučování (c. 10 minut). Každý student toto realizuje jednou za semestr dle harmonogramu vytvořeném na prvním semináři. (20 bodu za přípravu pracovního listu + 26 bodů za mikrovyučování)

Úspěšné složení testu v 7. týdnu semestru . Test shrnuje probranou látku. (max. 50 bodů, minimum 67% pro složení testu, jinak nutné zopakování – povolen jeden opravný termín).

Úspěšné složení závěrečného testu ve zkouškovém období (max. 100 bodů, minimum 67% pro složení testu, jinak nutné zopakování – povoleny dva opravné termíny).
