Annotation -
The second part of functional morphology dealing with the grammatical categories of word classes. Description of the verb starts from the formal, semantic and syntactic classification of verbs. Description of lexical verbs presents respective verbal categories. Next the remaining word classes are covered: pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions. The goal of the concomitant seminar is to deepen and apply the theoretical knowledge presented in the lecture.

Course completion requirements -

Credit requirements include attendance at seminars, successful completion of partial tests during the semester and the final test, and submitting the seminar paper.

Attendance is compulsory, max 3 absences per semester are allowed. 

The final test, which is one of the requirements of the couse, takes the form of a test with two attempts. The test must be completed in the academic year in which the student enrolled the course.

 

All credit requirements must be met by the end of the examination period of the academic year in which the student enrolled the course.

Syllabus -

1. Syntactic and semantic characteristics of the verb (transitivity, dynamic and telic properties). Grammatical categories of the verb - Voice (formation and uses of the passive).
2. Grammatical categories of the verb - Mood (verb forms expressing mood, uses of mood).
3. Nonfinite verb forms - gerund, participle, infinitive. Forms and functions. Secondary predications.
4. Grammatical categories of the verb - Tense. Simple and progressive forms. Expressing the present and simultaneity.
5. Grammatical categories of the verb - Tense. Expressing the past and anteriority.
6. Grammatical categories of the verb - Tense. Expressing the future and posteriority.
7. Pronouns and their classes. Personal pronouns. Case in pronouns. Deictic, generic, anaphoric reference.
8. Possessive pronouns, dependent and independent. Syntactic functgion and type of reference.
9. Demonstrative pronouns. Relative pronouns. Interrogative pronouns.
10. Indefinitie pronouns. Types of qunatifiers and their reference.
11. The adjective. Comparison. Attributive and predicative adjectives.
12. The adverb. Formation and comparison of adverbs.
