The course introduces general pedagogy as a modern scientific discipline, the knowledge of which forms the basis for further study and practice in the field of education. Attention will be paid not only to current issues of infrastructure of pedagogical sciences, but also to basic pedagogical categories, the profession of teacher and the educational system of the Czech Republic, in a broader, European, context. The aim of the course is to introduce students to contemporary pedagogical theory, to acquaint them with the basic terminology and structure of the field and to motivate them for further study of pedagogical sciences. 1. Introduction to the study of pedagogy, sources of pedagogical information. 2. Pedagogy as a science - the concept of pedagogy, its structure and place in the system of sciences. 3. Basic pedagogical terminology and its changes. 4. Pedagogical disciplines and their current issues. 5. Human education and development. 6. Education and society. 7. Teaching staff. 8. The profession of teacher. 9. Czech educational system in the context of the EU. 10. Current issues of Czech education.
