The aim of the elective subject is to emphasize the general physiological mechanisms that are important in Dentistry, and to summarize the current understanding of specific orofacial mechanisms that represent vital knowledge to the practising dentist. The main topics involve in the lectures are Saliva, Pain in orofacial region, Speech and Articulation, Bone remodeling in orofacial region etc. This elective subject is recommended for the students of Denistry - 2nd year.

The aim:

The student acquires deeper knowledges of the physiology of the orofacial area, which can be used during the study of the clinical subjects of Dentistry.

The students are required to attend the lectures and pass the written test (in the form of a multiple choice questionnaire) to obtain a credit.

Receptors in orofacial region. 

Orofacial pain and basic principles of therapy. 

Masticatory muscles. Mastication. Swallowing. 

Tooth pulp.

Speech and articulation. 

Bone remodelation in orofacial region. Reflex protective mechanisms in oral cavity. 

Manifestation of some diseases in orofacial region.
