This course and accompanying excursions will introduce students to the history of the Czech Republic and its capital city, Prague, while also showing the development of its urban structure and main social functions. Through cultural immersion, students will gain a deeper understanding of the particularities and intricacies of urban life as it evolved through centuries. Excursions to other urban sites in the Czech Republic will allow students to compare various types of cities and their development, typical of continental European culture in general.

Program UPCES je semestrální výukový program připravený společně pro studenty amerických univerzit a studenty FHS UK. Program je společným projektem FHS UK a Cerge-EI a výuku zajišťují tedy přednášející FHS UK a Cerge-EI. Americkým studentům je tento program nabízen jako celek, studenti FHS UK mají možnost zapsat si jednotlivé kurzy z nabídky pro daný semestr a aktivně se zapojit do doprovodných akcí a exkurzí. UPOZORNĚNÍ: Kurzy programu UPCES mají zkrácenou dobu registrace. REGISTRACE KONČÍ 8. 10. 2006. Podrobné informace o kurzech, rozvrhu, atestacích jsou uvedeny pod kódy jednotlivých kurzů.

Kurzy mají více kontaktních hodin -přednáška (1x90 min), seminář (1x90 min) za týden a tzv. cvičení a je třeba, aby si student zapsal najednou přednášku, seminář i cvičení (každé označeno vlastním kódem). Cvičení je chápáno jako účast na konzultacích a soustavná domácí příprava, kterou tyto kurzy vyžadují. Přednášky a semináře mají vlastní rozvrh a probíhají buď v Jinonicích nebo v učebně Cerge-EI (Politických vězňů 7, P1). Studenti mají povinnost opatřit si k jednotlivým kurzům předepsané READING MATERIALS, s nimiž se pravidelně pracuje při výuce, a které jsou nezbytné pro soustavnou domácí přípravu. Tyto materiály jsou k dispozici on-line (http://www.cerge-ei.cz/upces_data/) a v tištěné podobě v knihovnách v Jinonicích (studovna přes ulici) a Cerge-EI. On-line materiály jsou přístupné po zadání hesla, které zaregistrovaní studenti obdrží e-mailem.

Součástí programu jsou také jednodenní nebo vícedenní exkurze a doprovodné akce. Kalendář akcí je k dispozici na http://www.cerge-ei.cz/abroad/calendar/ Podrobné informace o exkurzích a doprovodných akcích budou zapsaným studentům rozesílány prostřednictvím e-mailu.
