Aim of the Pedodontics Dentistry is a complex preventive and curative care about oral cavity of a growing and developing individual (from the birth to the completion of adolescence), which requires following knowledge: Development of deciduous and permanent dentition and development of jaws. Principles of communication with a child patient, management of child behavior by pedodontic treatment. Diagnostics of most common diseases in orofacial area in children and adolescents, assessment of a treatment plan. Principles of interceptive dentistry in children. Control of pain by pedodontic treatment, indications for conscious sedation and general anaesthaesia. Basic epidemiological terms of dental caries and periodontal diseases in children and adolescents. Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention from the pedodontic point of view. Fluorine in prevention of dental decay of children and adolescents. Knowledge of practical preventive procedures (fissure sealing, preventive filling etc.). Comprehensive information for parents about preventive programmes, practical instruction and training of correct technique of tooth brushing in specific age categories.. Complex dental care about deciduous and permanent teeth in all developmental stages in children and adolescents, treatment of dental anomalies. Traumatology of teeth and jaws in children´s age, procedures of dentoalveolar and mucogingival surgery indicated in children and adolescents. Diseases of oral mucosa and periodontal tissues, symptoms of infectious and systemic diseases in oral cavity in children and adolescent age. Selection of patients with orthodontic anomalies and cooperation with orthodontics. Principles of prosthetic treatment in children and adolescents. Oncological problems in children´s age. Pedodontic treatment of children with special needs, cooperation of pedodontics with other close medical disciplines.
