The complete Course in Community/Bilateral Interpreting: Czech-Ukrainian Language Combination and Supportive language course consists of two parts: 1.Supportive Language Course (Language Preparation in Ukrainian) 2.Community/Bilateral Interpreting: Czech-Ukrainian Language Combination The Modular Course in Community/Bilateral Interpreting in the Czech-Ukrainian Language Combination and the Supportive Language Course (Language Preparation in Ukrainian) are designed for individuals who, in addition to the interpreting skills, wish to expand their language proficiency in the language support course. This part includes, among other things, the analyses of the use of specific vocabulary in complex situations. 1. Supportive Language Course (Language Preparation in Ukrainian) The Ukrainian language supportive course is aimed at expanding and improving language (and additionally historical, political and cultural) knowledge related to Ukraine and Ukrainian language. The key emphasis is put on the development of the specific vocabulary and stylistic skills necessary for the correct use of language in the process of interpreting. 2. Community/Bilateral Interpreting in the Czech-Ukrainian Language Combination The modular course in Community / bilateral interpreting: Czech-Ukrainian language combination aims to enhance competencies in the field of interpreting and covers also the acquisition and practical use of specialized terminology. Participants should master community/bilateral interpreting, including note-taking, consecutive interpreting, whispered simultaneous interpreting (chuchotage), interpreter ethics, the role and place of an interpreter, interpreting strategies, mental health, and more. Upon completion, community interpreters should be able to facilitate language communication between foreigners and Czech-speaking parties, particularly in various official settings (labour office, social and health insurance, tax office, trade license office, etc.), in education, healthcare, and while working for non-profit organizations. |

Knowledge – student can • define and describe the basic types of interpreting used in community interpreting (bilateral/dialogue/community interpreting, whispered simultaneous interpreting, sight translation) • define the principles of the code of ethics for community interpreters (Meta o.p.s.) • define technical prerequisites, necessary for quality interpreting Skills– student can • use the acquired information to provide quality interpreting • use terminology of the relevant thematic modules covered by the course • adjust the selection of interpreting strategies according to the specific communicative situation • interpret the content of the evaluated communicative situation taking into account the interpreter’s role and ethics • render the content of the communicative situation and provide adequate interpreting in terms of context and pragmatics (accuracy, consistency, clarity, fluency) while meeting the objectives of the specific communicative situation Competencies– student can • demonstrate in their interpreting performance their highly developed ability to conduct analysis and synthesis, evaluation of the specific communicative situation and consequences of cultural differences between the two participating parties, and ability to react to highly tense communicative situations in an appropriate manner • demonstrate in their interpreting their adaptability and ability of self-management according to the requests of the client/contracting party |
