| In the Anthropocene era, scientists are beginning to study the world afresh: the traditional distinctions between natural and social sciences, and between academic and non-academic forms of knowledge no longer provide an adequate framework for interpreting the present. Anthropocene phenomena are complex, dynamically changing and often counterintuitively interconnected - if we want to understand the world we live in, it is crucial to be able to look at it from different disciplinary perspectives. In the microcertificate module, you will learn how to effectively study and interpret the contemporary world in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary ways: you will learn how to go beyond your own expertise, communicate across disciplines, and better respond to the complex - ecological, social, and identity - challenges of the present. The course combines distance learning with an intensive week-long on-site summer school. !!In 2024, classes are taught in Czech and English!! |

| An intensive week-long on-site internship (seminars IN ENGLISH AND CZECH, field trips, lab work, short lectures, work on an ongoing project) combined with distance online preparation and subsequent mentoring leading to the development of a final thesis. All phases under the guidance of top experts in the disciplines (paleoecology, ecology, sociology, philosophy, history, economics, anthropology, computer science; about 10 teachers in each run). 3 phases: 1. Introductory online block: online lectures, assignment of independent reading, assignment of independent reading, online tutorials if needed. 3 group meetings, May-June 2024. 2. Intensive week-long programme in Prague: lectures, seminars, field trips, workshops during the summer school. 1 week, 9-13 September 2024. 3. Final online block: online lectures, advanced work and finalisation of final group work/project, online mentoring (ongoing individual and group consultations). 3 group meetings, 3 working group meetings with mentors, October-November 2024. Evaluation of final group work: January 2025. |

| Admission criteria: students will be admitted on the basis of the quality of their CV and motivation letter, which will be evaluated by a selection committee set up for this purpose. Special consideration will be given to the disciplinary diversity of the group. Minimum prior education: high school diploma Language requirements: advanced knowledge of English & CZECH The micro-certificate is suitable for: students of science, humanities, social sciences, and arts as well as for practitioners from the nonprofit sector, government employees, teachers, and members of the public interested in the Anthropocene |

| Graduates can define the concept of the Anthropocene and its theoretical grasp in the natural sciences and humanities, and they understand the principles of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. They will learn about natural and cultural heritage, urban landscapes, biodiversity issues in the Anthropocene, and about the study of nature from the perspectives of economics, geology, social sciences, anthropology, history, and philosophy. Graduates will be able to describe the process of data production in the natural sciences and humanities and gain experience in field research. Their skills in the areas of collaborative project development, text interpretation, and critical thinking will be developed. Students will acquire the competences to engage in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary debate and apply its principles in the areas of environmental and cultural heritage protection, education, preparation of different types of projects, and in their further university studies. |
